At Cleveland Hopkins airport, Delta, Spirit flights collide; no injuries

The Federal Aviation Administration says that an airplane and another plane crashed at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport while people were getting on board.

A statement from the FAA says it happened around 7 p.m. on May 12, one Sunday. There were no reports of accidents.

Spirit Airlines Flight No. 655 was parked at the gate and boarding people when Delta Airlines Flight No. 2577 hit it with the tip of one of its wings.

“Our guests disembarked normally through the jet bridge, and no injuries to Spirit guests or team members were reported,” a spokesperson for the company said Monday. “Safety is our top priority, so the plane was taken out of service so that our maintenance team could check it over carefully.”

The message says that Spirit was making other travel plans for its customers “as quickly as possible.”

Delta’s plane was a Boeing 739, and it was going to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport with 180 people on board. It took about four hours for its passengers to get on another plane on Sunday night.

Delta is also going to look into it. The following comment was made by Delta:

“After the wingtip from Delta flight DL2577 hit a parked plane at CLE, Delta teams worked to get customers back to their final destination in Atlanta.” We’re sorry for any trouble this may have caused.

An airport representative said the accident happened near Gate B2. There was no trouble with plane travel.
