Judge Greg Mathis and his wife, Linda Yvette Mathis, are ending their nearly 40-year marriage.
According to court papers seen by The Times, Linda Mathis filed for divorce from the “Judge Mathis” star on Thursday in Los Angeles County Superior Court. She said the reason for the split was “irreconcilable differences.”
In the paperwork, she said that they were no longer together as of July 17 and that they do not have any young children. She also asked the court to remove her husband’s right to ask her for support while she applied for spousal support. It’s not clear if the pair had a prenuptial agreement or not.
She also asked Greg Mathis to pay her lawyers’ fees.
Friday, when The Times asked both parties’ representatives for comment, they didn’t answer right away.
They got married in 1985, more than a decade before the first episode of “Judge Mathis.” The show ran for 24 seasons, from September 13, 1999, to May 25, 2023. In 2004, the reality court show based on arbitration won the NAACP Image Award for outstanding news, talk, or information series. In 2018, it won a Daytime Emmy for best legal/courtroom program.

Mathis got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2022. He is the longest-running Black male TV host and the second-longest-reigning judge in the history of courtroom TV (after “Judge Judy”). Mathis, 61, used to be a judge in Michigan’s 36th District Court before he worked in Hollywood.
Just a few days after Warner Bros. canceled Mathis’s own show, he revealed that he would be hosting a new courtroom show called “Mathis Court With Judge Mathis.” The show will be run by Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group.
