People from all over Ireland and other countries have paid homage to Toto Schillaci, an acting legend from Smithwicks who died too soon at the age of 59.
Most well-known for his unforgettable role in a popular Smithwicks ad with Ray Houghton and David O’Leary.
“I remember I was good at acting when I was younger—just reciting Shakespeare on the playground and other things like that, so the kids called me “Toto,” and my dad’s friends would tell him, ‘You’ve got a real Schillaci on your hands there.'”
Someone Irish remembers that the part in an Irish booze commercial should have gone to an Irish actor, but people loved him even though he was Italian. This was the man who also starred in World Cup Top Goalscorer and played the famous bad guy in “Packie Catch the Ball For Christ’s Sake.”
