Lady Gaga has added a Sports Emmy to her impressive collection of awards for her powerful Super Bowl performance of the song “Hold My Hand.” The performance was a heartfelt tribute to the victims of the New Year’s attack in New Orleans, Hurricane Helene in Florida and Georgia, and the wildfires that devastated Los Angeles County earlier this year.
The singer was nominated in the outstanding music direction category and won against strong contenders including “Evolution of the Black Quarterback,” “The Lionheart,” “Noche UFC: For Mexico, For All Time,” and “The Turnaround.” This achievement brings Gaga one step closer to the coveted EGOT status, having already won an Academy Award and multiple Grammys. She now only needs a Tony Award to complete the elite honor.
Gaga’s tribute took place on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, where she performed a stripped-down version of the “Top Gun: Maverick” anthem.
Accompanied by a full band and choir, she played the piano while first responders, law enforcement officers, and NFL legends Tom Brady, Michael Strahan, and Terry Bradshaw watched on from the front row. The performance was a solemn and moving moment honoring those affected by recent tragedies.
“Hold My Hand” was prominently featured in the emotional ending of the blockbuster film Top Gun: Maverick and was nominated for both a Grammy and a Golden Globe.
