Legendary musician Billy Joel has canceled his upcoming concerts following a recent diagnosis of normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a neurological condition that affects brain function. The 76-year-old “Piano Man” singer is currently receiving treatment and focusing on his recovery.
In a statement shared on Friday across his social media platforms, including Instagram, Joel revealed that his condition has been “exacerbated by recent concert performances,” which led to problems with his hearing, vision, and balance. On his doctor’s advice, he is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been instructed to refrain from performing during this recovery period.

Normal pressure hydrocephalus occurs when cerebrospinal fluid accumulates inside the skull and presses on the brain, primarily affecting older adults, especially those over 65. The condition can cause symptoms such as memory loss, difficulty walking, and incontinence, which may resemble dementia but can often be treated or even reversed if detected early.
According to NBC News, the statement also expressed his gratitude for the excellent medical care he is receiving and his commitment to prioritizing his health. “Billy is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health,” the announcement read.

Joel expressed regret over disappointing his fans, stating, “I am sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding.” This is not the first time Joel has adjusted his touring schedule due to health issues. Earlier this year in March, he postponed a tour for four months because of an unspecified medical condition. Additionally, in February, Joel suffered a fall during a performance in Connecticut, which was widely shared on social media.
As Billy Joel focuses on his health, fans worldwide are wishing him a speedy recovery and hoping to see him back on stage soon.
