Phil Robertson, the patriarch of the beloved reality series Duck Dynasty, has passed away at the age of 79. The news was shared by his family on Sunday, May 25, following months of public updates regarding his health after being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in December.
Robertson’s son, Jase Robertson, expressed his grief through a heartfelt tribute on X, writing, “My dad has gone to be with the Lord today! He will be missed but we know he is in good hands, and our family is good because God is very good! We will see him again!” Additionally, Sadie Robertson Huff, his granddaughter, shared a touching Instagram post honoring his legacy, featuring photos of their famous family through the years.

Willie Robertson, Phil’s other son, and his wife Korie also shared their condolences in a joint Instagram post: “We celebrate today that our father, husband, and grandfather, Phil Robertson, is now with the Lord.” They went on to thank fans for their love and prayers, saying, “We know so many of you love him and have been impacted by his life. We’re having a private service for now, but we’ll share details soon about a public celebration of his life.”
Phil Robertson had been publicly battling Alzheimer’s disease, which was first disclosed in the Unashamed with the Robertson Family podcast on December 6. During the podcast, Jase shared that his father was in the “early stages” of the illness. He added that the disease had accelerated, causing significant physical struggles for Phil. By April, Jase described his father’s condition as worsening, stating, “We’re making him comfortable, and we’re doing the best we can. I think that’s just what you do.”

Duck Dynasty, which aired on A&E, followed the Robertson family and their adventures with the Duck Commander company, founded by Phil in 1972. The show, which ran for 11 seasons, ended in 2017 but has remained a cultural staple. It also led to several spin-offs such as Going Si-Ral and Jep & Jessica: Growing the Dynasty. A&E recently announced that Duck Dynasty would return to the network with a special, Duck Dynasty: The Revival.
Phil’s legacy extends beyond television; he was the founder and president of Duck Commander, a successful hunting company that gained national prominence with its patented duck call. A Louisiana native, Phil’s impact on his family, faith, and fans will continue to be felt for years to come.
