For the first time since her high school days, star player Caitlin Clark will miss regular-season games as she recovers from a left quad strain. The Indiana Fever officially announced on Monday that Clark will be sidelined for at least two weeks, causing her to miss several upcoming matches.
Clark, who had already been sidelined for Indiana’s preseason opener against the Washington Mystics earlier this month due to a left quad injury, managed to return for the Fever’s regular-season opener against the Chicago Sky on May 17. However, shortly after, a similar injury has resurfaced, this time confirmed as a new strain on her left quad. This setback will keep Clark out for an extended period as she focuses on her rehabilitation.

The Fever face a challenging stretch ahead, with Clark expected to miss a minimum of four games. These include an away game against the Washington Mystics on Wednesday, May 28, followed by home matches against the Connecticut Sun on May 30 and the Mystics again on June 3. Clark will also be absent for a rematch against the Chicago Sky on June 7, where she would have faced rival Angel Reese.
According to USA Today, Fever coach Stephanie White shared insight on the situation: “I don’t know when it happened. After the Liberty game, we got a message that something was going on with her leg and they were getting an MRI, and then we got the word.” White also highlighted the potential silver lining of this unfortunate injury, stating, “Certainly we’d rather have it early than late.
It’s a great opportunity for our team to find an identity and to play in a different way. I also think it’s a great opportunity for Caitlin to watch the game from the sideline and to grow with a coaching kind of mindset.”

Clark has been a powerhouse so far this season, averaging 19 points, six rebounds, and 9.3 assists per game in the Fever’s first four contests. Her absence will no doubt be felt deeply by the team, which currently holds a 2-2 record and sits seventh in the WNBA standings.
The team and fans alike will be watching closely as Clark works through her recovery process, hoping for a strong return that can bolster Indiana’s playoff push later in the season.
