President Donald Trump has publicly accused Harvard University of being “very slow” in providing the U.S. government with information on foreign students enrolled at the Ivy League school. Trump made these remarks on his social media platform, Truth Social, as part of an ongoing dispute over Harvard’s compliance with federal reporting requirements.
“We are still waiting for the Foreign Student Lists from Harvard so that we can determine, after a ridiculous expenditure of BILLIONS OF DOLLARS, how many radicalized lunatics, troublemakers all, should not be let back into our Country,” Trump wrote on Monday. He further alleged that Harvard’s delay in submitting the requested documents was intentional, suggesting it may be for “good reason.”
In addition to the criticism, Trump indicated his willingness to redirect federal funding away from Harvard. On Truth Social, he stated, “I am considering taking Three Billion Dollars of Grant Money away from a very antisemitic Harvard, and giving it to TRADE SCHOOLS all across our land. What a great investment that would be for the USA, and so badly needed!!!”
The dispute centers on a letter from Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, who notified Harvard that the university had lost its certification to enroll foreign students under the Student and Exchange Visitor Program. This program authorizes schools to host international students holding F-1 or J-1 visas.

Harvard was accused of refusing to comply with multiple requests to provide data about foreign students, including records of misconduct, threats, or violent activity on or off campus. The letter also cited concerns over an “unsafe campus environment that is hostile to Jewish students” and criticized the university’s diversity, equity, and inclusion policies.

According to Fox News, Secretary Noem wrote, “This action should not surprise you and is the unfortunate result of Harvard’s failure to comply with simple reporting requirements,” emphasizing the government’s resolve to enforce compliance and combat “anti-Americanism and antisemitism in society and campuses.”
Harvard’s legal counsel responded to the requests but was deemed insufficient by the Department of Homeland Security. Following the revocation notice, Harvard filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Massachusetts, arguing that the government’s actions violate constitutional rights, including the First Amendment and Due Process Clause.
Judge Allison D. Burroughs, appointed by former President Barack Obama, granted Harvard a temporary restraining order on Friday, preventing the government from revoking the university’s certification pending further court hearings. A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday in Boston federal court.
