After premiering last week at Cannes, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning had its New York debut on Sunday night, marking what is being billed as Tom Cruise’s final appearance as Ethan Hunt in the franchise.
On the red carpet, Cruise confirmed, “It’s the final! It’s not called ‘final’ for nothing.” However, two years ago, Cruise expressed his inspiration from Harrison Ford’s long career and mentioned he intended to make Mission: Impossible films until he reached Ford’s age of 80. When asked about that statement now that he is 62, Cruise clarified, “I actually said I’m going to make movies into my 80s; actually, I’m going to make them into my 100s.”
“I will never stop. I will never stop doing action, I will never stop doing drama, comedy films — I’m excited,” Cruise added.
Reflecting on almost three decades of the franchise since it began in 1996, Cruise described the journey as exceptionally rewarding. “Everything that I’ve learned and continue to learn about storytelling, about life, about leadership, about character and every aspect of filmmaking. It’s been exceptional. I feel very fortunate to be able to make the films that I make and I love it, I just making movies.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Christopher McQuarrie, back for his fourth Mission: Impossible film, praised Cruise saying, “He’s the most giving, most game — he’s down for anything. Whether or not he understands something, he’s fully willing to jump into something, whether he feels it or not. He’s a great teacher and a great student.”
The film also features Hayley Atwell, Simon Pegg, Pom Klementieff, Angela Bassett, and others, rounding out the star-studded cast.
