Olivia Hayes, a grieving widow from Louisiana, is publicly supporting former President Donald Trump’s immigration and border security measures after losing her husband, Wesley Hayes, in a fatal crash allegedly caused by an illegal immigrant.
Appearing on Fox & Friends, Olivia spoke emotionally about the tragedy that struck her family and the policies she believes could prevent others from experiencing similar losses. “Our previous administration’s broken policy broke my family and nothing will bring him back,” she said. “However, in President Trump’s first 100 days in office, his firm action will prevent our tragedy from becoming someone else’s reality.”
Wesley Hayes was killed in October by an individual accused of driving drunk while in the country illegally. Since then, Olivia has become vocal about her support for tougher immigration enforcement, crediting Trump’s administration for steps she says are reducing the crisis.
She highlighted efforts such as the continued construction of the southern border wall, increased cooperation with Mexico to manage border security, and the role of border czar Tom Homan in holding sanctuary cities accountable. Citing data, Olivia claimed, “Because of these actions, we’ve seen… over a 95% decrease in illegal border crossings.”
According to statistics from the White House and Customs and Border Protection (CBP), over 65,000 illegal immigrants have been deported since Trump resumed office, with migrant encounters hitting historic lows. The administration lists this as one of the key accomplishments in the first 100 days of Trump’s second term.
While critics argue that stringent immigration policies risk separating families, Olivia responded by emphasizing the consequences of illegal actions. “Whether that be deportation or incarceration, they will be separated from their family,” she stated. “The alternative… is involuntarily and permanently separating families from their loved ones due to unnecessary acts.”
She referenced her own experience, saying, “My four-month-old daughter [has been] robbed of a life with her father because the Biden administration allowed for the man who killed Wesley to be here illegally.”
Ending her appearance, Olivia posed a question to critics of Trump’s policies: “If their spouse or their loved one was killed by someone who was here illegally, would they not agree that change needs to happen?”
